Se, natten er nær Midi

1. Se, natten er nær;
så rejs jer, stå op, mens det endnu er dag,
du vældige hær
af vidner, som kæmper for Himmerigs sag!
Hvad nøler I for?
For nøden er stor
ud over den hungrende jord.
Som ørkenens sand
er ukendt med vand,
så savner vi livets Ord.

2. Hvor blir I dog af?
Kom, giv os det håb, der blev givet til jer!
Snart afløses dag
af natten, hvor ingen kan arbejde mer.
Hvad venter I på?
Kan I mon forstå,
at bare fra jer kan vi få
det kendskab til Ham,
der fjerner vor skam,
så tøv ikke med at gå!

3. I sidder så fromt
og synger om nåde og frelse fra Gud!
Er Ordet mon tomt?
Vi ser jo kun få, der vil bringe det ud
Er budskabet kun
betydningsløs grund
til hyggeligt samvær en stund?
Nej, bed om den kraft,
det altid har haft,
til frelse for jorden rund!

4. Nu kommer han snart,
den mægtige hersker skal komme i sky
med lynglimtets fart
og hente jer hjem til sin evige by.
Vil I ta af sted
med glæde og fred
til underfuld herlighed,
i skinnende dragt
med kongelig pragt
– og uden at ta os med?

Behold, the night is close,
so arise, stand up while it is day,
you huge army
of witnesses who fight for Heaven's sake!
Why are you hesitating?
The need is great
across the hungry earth.
Like desert sand
has no experience of water
we miss the Word of life.

Where have you got to?
Come, give us that hope, that was given to you!
Soon day will be succeeded
by the night where nobody can work any more.
What are you waiting for?
Can you understand
that only from you we can get
the knowledge of Him,
who takes away our shame;
so don't hesitate to go!

You are sitting so piously
and singing about grace and salvation from God.
I wonder if the Word is empty,
since we see only a few who will bring it out.
Is the gospel just
a meaningless reason
for a moment's cosy gathering?
No, pray for the power
it always has had
to salvation for the whole earth!

Now he soon comes,
the mighty ruler shall come in the sky
with the speed of lightning
and take all of you home to his eternal city.
Will you leave
with joy and peace
for wonderful glory,
in shining garments
with royal splendour
- and not take us with you?
