In 1984 I got the idea to write a "Well-tempered piano" with 24 pieces in different keys, tempi, forms etc. This was meant to be an excercise in different techniques.
After 17 of these are finished, my interest in piano music and minor/major tonalities weakened.
The term "Building blocks" refers to the limited size of the pieces and their diverse forms and colours, but also the concept that I was playing with them until I was mature enough to make "real" constructions.
